Muslim women: can you honestly say it's not true?

Women who wear head scarf, let alone "full-Saudi" robes and face veils, are doing it to tell western women "we muslims believe you are whores because you are not veiled." And muslim women must raise your sons to believe that their sexual urges are uncontrollable so all unveiled whores are fair game because the Quran says so. I have been told this many times by muslim neighbor who kept urging me to convert.

I am a grandmother so I doubt her 30-ish husband is looking at me. I do not wear pop star clothes. My sons (no daughters) and their families don't dress "immodestly" either. Why does Islam teach un-hidden women are whores? And why are Islamic people supposed to avoid talking with non mumlims even if they keep trying to convert them?

About rape: police and psychologists know it's about power and violence, not sexy clothes. If muslim argument were true, why are 80 y.o women sexually assaulted?

I don't know what's wrong with your neighbor! She seems to be totally ignorant. Quran does not state that women who do not wear head scarfs are whores! I'm a Muslim woman, I don't wear a head scarf, it's a personal choice. I have friends who wear head scarfs and they don't have your neighbor's weird ideas, they didn't wear it to tell western women that they are whores, people who do things for their religion do not do them to make other people feel bad about themselves. And about 'muslim women who must raise their sons to believe that their sexual urges are uncontrollable' I don't know where did that woman get these ideas from! But this is not what the Quran says, these are may be her personal beliefs and it has nothing to do with our religion.

Dear Grandma, I am a muslim and I want to appologize for you for what those idiot muslims have told you. Please understand that there are many muslims who really do not have enough knowledge of Islam or Quran. I am a practicing muslim and I studied Quran many times, it never said that uncovered women (muslims or not) are whores. My mother, sister and wife are wearing head scarf not to tell any one any thing but just because they believe it is more protective to them against the eyes and hands of bad people. they think that their bodies are not public property for any one to enjoy it with his eyes. But, who is not wearing is never considered as a whore. Finally, muslims should never urge anyone to convert.. if they just show a good mannars and ethics, it will be a better invitation for whoever is interested to learn about Islam. Sorry again. Peace.

Muslims such as mutmainna above give the reason for wearing of the hijab/burkha as avoiding the possibility of rape.
In this connection yesterday I had posted a question that why not should the muslim men forced to wear burkas. Further should not the men be allowed to step out of their houses only if they are accompanied by a close female relatives - mothers, sisters or wife as is done to women (who need to be accompanied by a close male relative) in some islamic countries. As rape is committed by the men only, logically should not the men face the consequence & not the women.
I did not get any satisfactory reply to that.

Again, mulsims who are ignorant or do evil, doesn't imply that Islam is bad. Study the Qur'an yourself, don't just depend on hearsay.

Covering yourself is being modest. Its obvious that if a woman is wearing tight clothes, or less clothes, she would tempt a man. On the other hand, no man would even think about a woman who has covered herself and hidden her beauty.

What is the probability of the woman with less or tight clothes being sexually assaulted as compared to that of a covered woman. Its not difficult to answer, especially if you consider the number of rapes in the US everyday.

As an Imam I have had to deal with this several times. You will not be able to convince your neighbor of this but actually she has no Islamic basis for what she is telling you.

If it is the woman and she is married then most likely her husband has mentioned your clothing to her and she now suspects him and is taking it out on you. You need to tell her in no uncertain terms that she should tell her husband to stop looking at you. That will embarrass her enough to stop talking to you altogether which is better for her anyway.

Much of what i would want to say has been said already.
Muslim women dont wear hijab to tell anyone anything.
its part of our religion and culture and we are following what we believe. It has nothing to do with what anyone else is wearing.
IF you took the time to talk to some women you will see that they are not as judgemental as you think. We have the right to wear hijab if we want and its got nothing to do with being slutty or with rape. rape is about power and nothing else.


what you choose to wear does to some extent reflect who you are. your perception of what looks slutty could be very different to someone elses so dont judge people by what they wear. wearing hijab is a reflection of spirituality for most muslims and is not intended to offend other people who choose to dress differently.

I'm not muslim... but I believe that women who do not dress modestly are way over exposed...... and yeah.. some are even whorish.. I also believe the muslim women cover because it's their way of showing their level of spirituality.... it shows they have freedom from the need to be recognized for what they look like outwardly. They only bless those they love and who love them for who they are by uncovering. So I think your perception of the veil may be a bit off....

And another thing: Maybe if Muslims got comfortable with sex and practiced sexual selection rather than incest (cousin marriage) there would be less nepitism (corruption), less tribalism and less genetic disease in muslim countries.

I am not a Muslim but a Christian woman who has to face the same prejudices based on how I dress. I feel the need to tell you that sometimes a person is just living their faith and not attempting to make a judgment call. It is not always about you, me or anyone else. Live and let live.
