To not follow the ways of the old testament? Being the Son of God and Gods last true earthly Representative I was wondering where in the bible does he say that we shouldn't follow the ways and traditions of the Old Testament? Because Jesus knew the old testament very well?

In Matthew 5, Jesus said that the law would not pass away until either the end of the world, or until all things were fulfilled.

In John 17, Jesus states that he fulfilled all that he was sent to accomplish, as written in the law, the psalms, and the prophets, and it did pass away.

In Luke 24, Jesus points out that fact to his apostles.

In Hebrews, St. Paul explains the same thing, using very specific old testament references.

Mat 5:17 Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.

Joh 17:1 These things Jesus spoke: and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said: the hour is come. Glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee.
Joh 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him.
Joh 17:3 Now this is eternal life: That they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Joh 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Luk 24:44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me.
Luk 24:45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.

Heb 8:6 But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament which is established on better promises.
Heb 8:7 For if that former had been faultless, there should not indeed a place have been sought for a second.
Heb 8:8 For, finding fault with them, he saith: Behold the days shall come, saith the Lord: and I will perfect, unto the house of Israel and unto the house of Juda, a new testament:
Heb 8:9 Not according to the testament which I made to their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt: because they continued not in my testament: and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
Heb 8:10 For this is the testament which I will make to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their mind: and in their heart will I write them. And I will be their God: and they shall be my people.
Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying: Know the Lord. For all shall know me, from the least to the greatest of them.
Heb 8:12 Because I will be merciful to their iniquities: and their sins I will remember no more.
Heb 8:13 Now in saying a new, he hath made the former old. And that which decayeth and groweth old is near its end.

The whole New Testament is given by inspiration of Christ and is a testament to Jesus fulfilling the Old Testament. The Levitical Laws in the O.T. were just a teacher or a guide until the Savior came; which of course, was Jesus. He came to do away with all those old laws, and His life, raised by Jewish parents, showed that altho Jesus was born into the line of David, He came to show the way of love and the way to Salvation. He summed up all the laws by re-inforcing the 10 Commandments...Actually he even summed up the 10 Commandments into two, by saying that if we Loved God, and we loved our neighbor as ourselves, we would be obeying the law. This "New" law covers everything, and if we just obey these two Commands, we would be living in Love, and not following the O.T.,which was temporary, until the Savior came...
I could give you scriptures, but I've typed in the lesson instead, to show that as Christians, we believe that following Christ is all we need...

I cannot recall reading that Jesus ever said not to follow the old testament teachings. Indeed He quotes from it all the time. But if you are referring to the sacrificial ceremonies of killing animals for their blood to be a sin offering, then Jesus does say in the last supper "this is my blood of the New Testament (covenant) which is shed for many for the remission of sins" Matthew 26 v. 28. As far as christians are concerned his blood is sufficient he died once for all our sins and so there is no need for any more sacrifices.

Hope this helps and is what you were looking for.

I don't believe Jesus said that, but the bible does say

John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

1 John 2:7-11
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

Matthew 22:34-40
34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

2Co 3:6
who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit;* for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The letter (of the law) kills. The Spirit gives life.

Actually he at one point states thaty he was not arrived on Earth to change the law, therefore all the laws of the old testament still apply to Christians. He simply gave them a way out of condemnation if they fell short so to speak. I couldn't quote you verse but someone could if they choose to,Christians usually don't because they say they are not bound by the old testament, alot of them anyway. That way they can change things like having the sabbath that isn't on the sabbath etc. Otherwise they might have to explain how they justify Constantine declaring sunday rather than saturday to be their holy day, thus breaking one of Gods commandments on a weekly basis.

I think they are getting that when Jesus says He is the new covenant and the old one waxes old (old testament) - or something to that effect - saying that we are not under the law - but under Jesus Christ and His teachings. I hope I'm right - this was something I was told. I still read the old testament and also the new - both.

Yes, but Jesus became the law. We follow him. Like no need to make sacrifices any longer as did in old Testament because He was the sacrificial lamb that atone for our sins once and for all. However, following Him does encompass the laws...still 10 commandement. Jesus said, Love your neighbor as yourself. That is what we are to do....the law in Moses' day would be followed automatically if we followed Jesus. Its really pretty simple.

In all four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). He doesn't say not to follow any of the ways of the old testament - just tells us that the Great Command is inclusive of the 10 commandments and to live by that is the best way to live. God bless you. ~Nise~
