Actually i think the opposite is true. you will have less pain jogging on a treadmill. the surface is softer than concrete, the motion of the track propels you more and causes less stress on knees and joints. i personally like to mix it up and i get different results when i am indoors on a treadmill versus outdoors on the jog path. i love being outside but i do experience more pain here. inside is great just because you can avoid the elements and the monitor is there for you to watch your progress.
that said i am not a professional and i am sure you will get some great advise from people who know the science of it, this is just my personal experience.

If you generally have pain in your knees when you jog or run then you are likely to get pain both indoors (on a treadmill) or outdoors.
However, outdoor running may cause more pain than a treadmill in some situations. Specifically, running downhill is very high impact exercise and cross country running, in which your muscles have to work far more to hold the leg straight and stable may result in pain.

However, my running coach has explained in the past that running on a treadmill is not good as your stride becomes incorrect. Running in one spot means you do not correctly stride out to the front (as you don't want to overshoot the treadmill) which is bad for your overall running.

If you are in pain I strongly recommend seeing a physiotherapist. When I took up running seriously a year ago I was kept awake at night from knee pain. After seeking physio help and doing the recommended exercises for two months all the pain went away. I have not had any further troubles even on half marathon distances.

Not necessesarily ,the impact on a treadmill is not supposed to provoke any knee pain (treadmills are way softer than pavement) ....if you run on the street or on a trail the impact can cause knee pain.

Always strech and warm up before jogging or running, that will diminish aches and pains.

Also I would reccomend to get a good joint support supplement.

It is the same. Get an elliptical machine. Your feet never leave the platform and you still use your same muscles to get the work out. You can even go backwards to get different muscles that you can't get with just running.
