My father always taught me to search for the truth and hold fast to it. The problem is, the truth I found is different from his and even disproves his truth. I don't want to hurt him, but at the same time I must stay true to myself. If I ever put in writting anything that opposed christianity and "led others astray" (as he would say) it would kill him. What can I do???

Ok, any of you who believe science doesn't disprove the Bible are not able to answer my question. The latest nobel prize was given to two scientists for their work in the Big Bang Theory, and while it is only a theory it is still accepted by the entire scientific community as the best answer we have so far (in other words the truth of today). I need another answer.

You're right, it might hurt him if you chose science. HOWEVER, what you have to understand is that by following his dreams and not your own, you are hurting yourself even more. Each person on Earth has their own dreams and passions. You cannot live your father's life and be happy at the same time. Live your life the way that you want to live it.

I suggest that you sit down and have a good heart-to-heart. Tell him how you feel. I hope that he'll understand for both of you. If he doesn't...then you'll just have to decide what is more important. His happiness, or yours?

I truly wish you the best of luck.

Jesus said, I am the Way the TRUTH and the Life...If you're dad is teaching that the Word of God is true, then he is correct. I realize that what you are being taught in the science classroom contradicts much of what you have been raised to believe...especially the argument of Creation versus evolution. Both take faith to believe, but wouldn't you agree that it takes more faith to believe that all of the universe happened by accident than to believe that it was intelligently designed by a loving Creator with purpose and intention? What you have to remember is this: from the very beginning Satan has been using the same tactics, and his number one tactic is to use the question "Did God REALLY say?" The answer is if it's in His word the anwer is "yes". As far as, can you pursue science without denying your faith? The answer is yes. Check out answersingenesis.org.

By the way, it (the Big Bang theory) is not accepted by the entire Science community. Get on AnswersinGenesis...just check it out. You will find information about many scientists who disagree in this theory and intelligent reasons as to why. Do you think any news agency would report that there are many scientists who disbelieve in the Big Bang, no way. What they believe to be true, is not true, but is still reported as truth. Does this seem right?

I am not one of those who believes science disproves the Bible.
I am not a run of the mill Christian, though. It is preposterous to discount science because one has faith in God. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Both of them are fine as far as each of them go, but we are learning new things everyday.
Be that as it may, you have to live your life the way you want to live it. Dad may pull against the reins at first, but I am sure he loves you, in spite of any differences you may have with him. Ultimate decisions regarding your life are up to you. Respectfully, explain to Dad that you intend to make science the focus of your studies. I would not be so fast to believe that your truth disproves his though. Go toward your studies with the attitude of the eager seeker of truth, not committing yourself to one view or the other. No matter how many questions are answered, there will be five more to replace it. You will learn this the older you get.
Good luck, I hope it goes well for you.

Ok, first off, I want to ask you....How are you disproving his truth? What, in science, disproves it? Not a theory, not an hypothesis, but an actual truth that disproves it?

You can study science without hurting him...so long as it's true science. It'll be hard sometimes...but look at what you've been taught, look at what he believes and what you've apparently believed and take that into consideration. You have to respect your dad's feelings, and stay true to yourself. It'll be hard, but I really honestly think you can do it without hurting him...if done in the right way.

I believe in the big bang theory too. God said "BANG" and it was created. I think you are rebelling against your father and I hope you grow out of it! There is much in science that is good but nothing in science can disprove the word of God no matter how you try.

yet its ok for Protestants to call their non secular chief Reverend. Its hipocritical to demonize the Church for calling their leaders something previous the rank of human, while reverend (somebody worth of veneration) is likewise previous the rank of human. It replaced into uncomplicated for early Christians to call one yet another brother and sister, so the plain rank of a frontrunner could be...you guessed it.....father. This additionally ordinary all of Christianity as a relatives, which i'm uncertain how everybody can call that a bad component. apart from, Roman society wherein Christianity grew replaced into ruled by the patriarch. Calling somebody father replaced into basically like calling somebody sargent or chief. It replaced into Roman lifestyle. My propose to you is to pay interest on your very own faith. If the worst component approximately my faith is that we call our leaders father, i will evaluate Catholicism a remarkable faith. you prefer to %. aside theology, i urge you to purpose, yet while the main suitable you're able to do is nit %. at simantics, I pitty you.

Your never going to win in this situation.
Follow your passion.
You won't be happy in life if you do not.
Each person has thier own callings.
Try not to get into religious verses scientific discussions with your dad.
Show him respect but distance yourself form having to have discussions with him which you know will possibly offend him.

I suggest that you tell your father that you have anguished over having to choose between religion and your love of science. Ask him if he will respect your decision. Tell him that acceptance of one does not necessarily mean rejection of the other. I wish you well in your future.
