omg! guys, do you think that being 15-16 is too young to be dating?! I have asian parents and you know how they are.. all strict and that. Ive been dating a caucasian boy, who i truly love. I get that they're trying to look after me and protect me, but i just feel like theyre just overdoing it. Its not like im a baby anymore. I can drive this year, and they wont let me go out with a boy, but they let me have the responsibility of driving!
Everyone thinks Im too young other than my brother whos 19! omg! So frustrating!! Oh well.. maybe its just an asian tradition thing.

I think that how young is too young very much depends on the individual, but I think 15-16 is on average about the right age to start dating. I started dating my husband when I was 16, married him at 19 and I am now 29, so it was right for me. I have no idea if Asians are usually more strict than others...

Old school people like all of our parents had experienced these things in there life, so they THINK they no better..like what is wrong and what is right. But the modern people now these days, no truly more than adults do. When we tell our parents that this is right then those asian parents will say that you are wrong. I am pure korean and do understand your situation. This really is a late answer because this question was nearly from 8 years ago..but just felt like writing one answer down since i was flipping through why asian fathers are so harsh on there children.

I think u r not grown up by asian tradition. If it is so then u would not have asked such type of question. Its true that U r at teenage and ur mind just craves for warmth of the male but not love. U have not experienced yet about it. Boy friend is a like a fashion to U. Its just the infatuation in this age. So ur parents are just trying to save u from any disaster that could happen with u in this age coz they knew well about the feelings that arises during this period of life. So think well and respect feelings of ur parents, don't curse them.

Welcome to the world of teenagers. Your parents love and provide for you. It is your responsibility to respect them and their rules. Sure it is tough but they know what they're doing.

If you seriously think they are being too tough, talk to them and tell them that you feel by being so strict they don't trust you and ask them what you can do to earn a little more freedom. I bet if you don't whine about the rules like a child they may little by little begin to see the adult you are becoming.

Oh, and as a mother of 4, yeppers, 15 is way too young to be out on a date, unless there is a whole group going.

Same same here. I was reminded not to date until i was in the uni. They don't want me to lost my studies because of dating, coz dating brings trouble when u fight with ur bf...then mood nt good, then cnt study. N parents don't want u to lost yourself. Asians are more 'close'. U get what i mean.

First of all, you are NOT in love. You are in heat. You are still a young immature little girl. We can tell that by your writing style. Second, you are living in their house, they make the rules. They know what is best for you. Third, relax. You are young for such a short time. Enjoy having your parents take care of you and watch over you. Soon, you will be on your own and only seeing them twice a year.

Do they want you to date Asian boys only?

NOTHING is wrong with them. EVERY parent should be as strict. maybe that would prevent some of the thugs walking around these days. Be thankful.

In the US, you are given the responsibilty to drive a car, vote, and even join the army before you are even alowed to purchase alcohol.
Screwy rules, but rules nonetheless.
