The principal of an elementary school instructed his students to stand during the recitation of a pledge to the Mexican flag during a diversity assembly recently, and he's been trying to backtrack ever since.

"We absolutely refuse to stand up and pledge allegiance to another country's flag," a mother whose daughter attends the school told talk show host Chris Baker on AM 740 KTRH radio. "Where is the sensitivity to the country and to the troops and the men and women that have fought and died for this country?"

The mother, identified only as Amy, said school officials gave all the children Mexican flags to wave and then asked everyone to stand up and pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag.

"Get out!" Baker shouted. "What school is that?"

It was Velasco Elementary in Clute, Texas, where Sam Williams is principal.

Stuart Dornburg is a spokesman for the Brazosport Independent School District which includes Velasco, and he said Sept. 15 through Oct. 15

is a national Hispanic Heritage Month and the assembly was a cultural education activity in a district that values and respects diversity.

But Amy said she got "glares" when she didn't participate and when she "proudly" put the Mexican flag on the ground.

A group of Mexican heritage parents stood on the stage and recited the pledge. But it doesn't matter who said or who authorized it. In a state that is plagued by illegal immigrations problems,it was not the right thing to do.No other flag should ever be presented to an American child except the USA flag.If I lived in that school district heads would roll.I was taught, thru all of grade school, middle school, high school, and college and NOT once was I ever presented another flag to pledge my allegiance to.
No amnesty

Deportation not legalization

Namtrac...last time I checked millions of Canadians were not crossing our borders illegally screaming how much they hate America while sucking the teats of entitlements meant for legal citizens

This was totally insane. Diversity does not mean pledging allegiance to a foreign flag!!! Whatever happened to having diversity day and talking about the traditions of some hispanic countries, having snacks from that particular country, etc. It's diversity day not dual allegiance day! There is a difference.

Yes, I'm very familiar with that - it happened in my town, but they have one thing wrong ---- it wasn't in Clute. It happened in Freeport - which is just a few miles away, in the same district. The people of Brazoria County are outraged over this, and NO, we should not pledge allegiance to any other flag. This is the United States of America - not Mexico.

Pledge allegience to a flag they feel no allegience to? Because the oaths the Principal takes have no meaning, apparently?

No, the Principal should go.

Any one that pledges allegiance to another countries flag is a traitor, plain and simple. I wonder how many people actually understand what "pledging their alliegence" to anything means.

If that was my childs classroom, I would have had that entire faculties heads on sticks,

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Simple answer, One country one Flag ! Pledging allegiance to another countries flag has nothing to do with diversity. learning, and respecting about the culture is diversity , not honoring it.

Pledging Allegiance to another country IS NOT sharing cultural diversity. It is an affront to those of us who have served and died for our country(THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA)not Mexico.
It also teaches the children that to "pledge your allegiance" (a solemn act)means nothing. The principal should be fired

Eva B has said it beautifully...........I agree with her...enough of this PC ...let's get back to showing pride in our country, our flag , our troops and our people.
Let's stop apologizing and feeling guilty for being a great free prosperous nation. We weren't given this, our people , our troops earned this place through hard work, courage and a belief in the freedom for all people.
