I answer this a wile back for someones 1- you need a can of malt you can get it at the supermarket,2-5 lbs of sugar3- 2 cakes of active dry yeast 4- a 5 gallon stone crock wash and sterilize the crock 5- lots of empty bottles glass is the best. ounce you have assemble all the parts. you will mix the malt with 4 to 4 &1/2 gallons of warm water add sugra, yeast and mix very well, be sure to put the crock in a warm place, and cover it, let it set for 1 to 2 weeks for it to work after 1 week thro some potoates cut in 1/4s in to the brew, let it sit and work for 1 to 2 more weeks this will give it some kick!! with a funnal and some cheese cloth for a filter fill your bottles 3/4 s of the way full place the caps on loosely because it will keep working for about one more week!! if you tiggen the caps too soon it will exploed and make a big mess, after setting in the bottles for 1 week go and tighen the caps and refridgerate it and enjoy. this is the resapie for home brew beer, have been makeing it for 25 years

For a beginner, the best thing to do is to search out a homebrewing store or website and gather all the ingredients and materials together to make a batch of a simple ale. From an ingredients standpoint, you need malted barley, water, yeast and hops. There are innumerable variations based on these four ingredients.

From an equipment standpoint, you will need a fermentation vessel with a fermentation "lock" to let C02 escape without exposing the fermenting beer to the air, and bottles in which to store the beer and carbonate it after the main fermentation is complete.

There is a lot of other equipment that can make thie easier and more efficient, such as bottle washers, spihons, etc. A cardinal rule of fermentation is that your vessels and bottles need to be as clean as possible to prevent any spoilage or exposure.

Rather than go into exhaustive detail here, I'd suggest you get a copy of the Joy of Homebrweing by Charlie Papazian, which really covers the basics. A lot of homebrweing stores sell full-up kits that give you the basics you will need to get started from an equipment or a ingredients standpoint.
