Long considered a sign of hospitality, the pineapple is now widely recognized as sign of Welcome and Friendship.....and so we welcome you to Bristow’s Inn.
The pineapple’s exact origins are unclear but history declares that the fruit had been found in many tropical locations from Brazil, to the Caribbean to the south sea islands. Christopher Columbus, was probably the first to introduce the fruit to Europe in 1492 where it became dubbed the "king of fruits", and of course today, the pineapple has become synonymous with Hawaii.
The fruit was referred to as the Pine of the Indies, as the early explorers felt it resembled the pinecone....the English added the apple for the fruit’s texture...and the Pineapple name was established.
The early sea captains, would place a pineapple on the their gateposts, when returning from their voyages, to let neighbours know they were home, and would be pleased to entertain them....and so the origins of the Pineapple as a symbol for hospitality and welcome were created.
