Nothing
They Generally have a 4 year obligation to the (IRR) indv. Ready Reserve system. it's the fine print in all military 4 year contracts. You sign for 4 years service, but if you leave you spent 4 in the IRR. It's purpose is to recall critical people back to service. They are trained already. while draftees take time to make into recruits.

There is no draft. Every time people look at the news the freak and ask this question. In August, it was everybody crying about Lebanon. Heard much about that lately????? Also we just recruited 80,500 people this year alone into the Army.

Stop worrying

If they reinstituted the draft it would most likely, like another responder said, involve some sort of stop loss for those without a certain minimum amount of time.
It's a real possibility considering that the pool of qualified recruits is not infinite and the worldwide requirements aren't getting any smaller.
They have just about scraped the bottom of the barrel with the Army IRR. While on paper the IRR looks huge, in reality there are many many inaccurate addresses and people who ignore active duty orders. Right now there is no stick to apply to people who decide not to fullfill their obligation

It is my opinion that the U.S. will not ever re-instate the draft during the War on Terror. Reason #1) Although the military is strapped for personnel it is not that desperate. 2) Draftees, often but not always, make poor Soldiers because they lack the motivation. 3) The Air force is scheduled to cut 8,000 service members. The Army can call up the IRR (see previous responder), but do not always call everyone up.
