They are checked in a separate room by women. They can show their faces to other women - just not to men.

I wear a veil everytime I have forgotten my passport and need to borrow a friends or I just want to smuggle a few kilos of coke into the country. Customs are just cool about that. They say, Oh, if you are wearing a veil then we don't check your face or what else is underneath!
C'mon, folks! Get real. Of course women wearing veils are checked at airports. Sometime I bet customs aren't all that polite about it either.

Michael E you might be interested to know that a male suspect in a 'terrorist hunt' in the UK evaded capture by wearing the full Islamic dress, including a veil. Fortunately, he was eventually caught and is now in jail. (BTW It was not at an airport where he would have been checked.)

This just shows how these people are given special treatment. if I as a white UK woman decided that I wanted to wear a veil I would not be allowed on a passport picture wearing my veil and would be ordered to remove it at the airport for security reasons. No matter what I bleated about religeon I would be given no special treatment.....can't understand why they are any different.
If I was getting on a plane and saw a woman with 1 of these veils on I would demand that she remove it and I am sure others would too!!

Women by law have to remove the veil at any any airport including Islamic countries. If objected, there are always female officers to check veiled women.
Veil is not required or desired in Islam, but freedom of choice must be respected.
Jews wear black hates where under they can also have mini nukes. Sikh have big turbans underneath they can hide stacks Bango. Yankees insist on their cowboys hats abroad where underneath they can hide their automatic guns.

there was a piece in yesterday's paper about a reporter who went to different airports with a veil on, some asked her to remove it to check against passport but others just waved her through even though she only had her eyes showing.

They cannot get a passport if their phograph shows them wearing a veil
so I guess ( in theory) the must remove the veil at passport control
personally I take my hat off to Jack Straw , he is saying out loud what the silent majority are thinking
