I'm 70 and doing fine except for an inability to walk. I enjoyed a lot about getting older. A lot of the crap that used to bother my mind seemed to disappear. My kids are grown so I can pursue hobbies I didn't have time for. My friends go to lunch and run around in red hats and purple dresses having fun. I retired 10 years ago but do wish I were still teaching (on some days) Generally, there's just such a load of worries that flew away - I let other people worry about the world. Probably the worst thing are the health problems - I've lost a couple of friends and my husband is on a thin thread with his heart. I had 9 surgeries on my leg and have survived 2 cancers but those things are part of life and I regard myself lucky to still be healthy and feeling good at 70.

The worse part about growing old is that the body just doesn't work as good as it used to. Putting that aside, the best part is my children are grown and I have time to do things I enjoy not just the things I have to do. The next best part is having grandchildren. Love them, spoil them and send them home to their moms and dads.

In watching my mother grow old, it was really a wake up call for me, as she was a intelligent woman, ended up with dementia, last 6 months of her life she could not handle money, know what month or day it was, turned into a person I could not recognise, so yes if your mind is fine, nothing wrong with growing old, but losing your mind and you can nothing to stop it, yes a sobering thought for me anyhow!

Things are starting to slide south at an alarming rate, no matter how much time I spend at the gym. I am also becoming more cynical.

you get tired and just can't do what you used to do.

Best thing? you're smarter than younger people, cause you have lived so long.

Another best thing?: memories. So many memories.

Another best thing?: you really start to mellow out if you let yourself.

And the last best thing? (and there are NO MORE best things):

senior citizen discounts!
