I am trying to understand exactly what is a Jew for Jesus. If it's a person of Jewish faith who believes that Christ died for their sins and was the son of God, then isn't that the definition of a Christian? Please let me know if I'm wrong in my understand of what a Jew of Jesus believes, or what exactly is the distinction between the two.

BTW, I am talking of the religion, not the culture or heritage. :)

Jews for Jesus are a class of Christians from a strictly religious standpoint.
They identify themselves with the ethnic and historical heritage of Judaeism, practice Jewish customs, and celebrate Jewish holidays. They may or may not accept the New Testament as accurate.

Jews for Jesus unfortunately believe in Christ but are Jewish. Christians aren't Jewish.

basically your first understanding is correct.

the difference that your not seeing, is the intent.

a christian is honest about their beliefs.

a "Jew for Jesus" or "Messianic Jew" is a christian who frequently was born of jewish parents, and either/or has not accepted that when they changed their beliefs, they became no longer jewish, or are deliberately deceptive in order to prey upon religiously and spiritually weak and isolated jews, in order to convert them to christianity covertly.

its truly quite disgusting. one of the most abhorrent christian practices in the world IMO.

>>"Jews for Jesus unfortunately believe in Christ but are Jewish. Christians aren't Jewish. "<<
incorrect. if a jewish person comes to belive in jesus, they are no longer jewish. they have converted to christianity.

>>"Consider the faith in Christ with the customs of Jews... thereby finding spiritual approval under both philosophies"<<

absolutely impossible, because believing in Jesus as more than merely a man, that is, the messiah, God, or God's son, are all by jewish standards, Polytheistic and/or Idolotorous.

>>"Most Jews just dont believe that he has yet... "<<
this is also incorrect and deceptive. NO jews belive the messiah has actually come.

honestly the whole principle is utterly offensive to both Judaism and christianity.

heres a site you might find useful, http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/

edit: clarifying another point... the jewish messiah rather obviously has not come, because it would be the messianic age, (or if one were to belive hes CURRRENTLY in existance,... he hasn't shown himself yet, to start the changes leading up to the temple reconstruction and messianic age) and is not meant to be god incarnate, a sacrifice or anything like that, but merely a man)

An excellent question. Both believe in Jesus, of course. A jew for Jesus is trying to hold onto Judiasm and accept Jesus too. However, he or she can Not do this because if youfollow Jesis (whom I respect} you are not Jews because this means that you acept the Trinity which is the father, son and Hoky Ghost, whiich we as Jews can not acept as our main prayer says "Hear oh Israel,m the Lord Our God, the Lord is One." Hope I have helped.
