my daughter thinks short hair on women when they get this age make them look younger.some friends do too..some friends are real nagging about it.i think people should be left alone and do whatever they feel comfortable with themselves whether it be almost brush cut type a thing or down to the butt.the straight look is in most people say but i dont see anything wrong with someone going wavy curly if they like it themselves.

I think 40 year old women should wear their hair however they well please. So many segments of society stereotype women over 40 in so many negative ways, I say if you can do something - anything you'd like! - to make you feel better about yourself, you should certainly do it. :-)

What do you mean by cutting your hair short? Do you mean cutting your waist length hair to shoulder length or do you mean cutting your hair into a very short cropped style? If it is the latter, then don't do it! I don't think it will make you look younger, if anything I think it can often do the opposite. I understand older women cutting their hair because it is brittle and thinning, but if you have lovely thick wavy hair, why would you want to cut it all off!! Women cutting all their hair off after 40 is a thing of the past, how many movie stars over 40, cut their hair short? Very few, because longer hair = femininity and youth. Just make sure it is in a flattering style for your face, with lots of choppy layers and a nice colour that suits your skin tone. HTH : )

It depends on the woman and the quality of her hair. Some women have hair that's gorgeous at any age, and some has hair that looks better short even when they're only in their twenties.
Go with the look you feel the most comfortable with.

We are all strangers from different places and we all have different culture and different ways of thinking, but its just funny that yahoo brings us together overcoming a great distance and we don’t notice it.
I will advice you to take 90% of your daughters advice and consider anything you get form yahoo answers (us) as 10%.
We’ve never seen youu but she has seen you a lot and she should know the best hairstyle that would bring out the natural beauty of her 40 year old mother although it’s your hair and you can do whatever you like with it. But I believe whatever you do with it affects only those that care for you. (Think aboutt it)

No matter what lenght a women wears at any age, I believe proper grooming is the key. My grandmother, who is 90, still wears shoulder lenght hair, but always keeps it in either a neat bun or a schingon (think Audrey Hepburn in that famous picture for Breakfast at Tiffany's) She also insisted on dyeing it all the way into her 60's.
Even now, with it being as white as snow, no one ever suggests that she should cut it, cause it's always so neat.
So as long as you're hair is tidy, I see no need in cutting it.

Maybe a mid length. It's said that shorter hair make older women look younger, but I think that applies to women 60+. 40 is not old so do a mid length I wouldn't suggest having hair down your back that makes you look like a old person trying to be young which is never good.

Short hair is usually more a matter of low maintenance more than age.
Mothers cut their hair short.

I don't see many 40-year-olds with long hair, but it looks good on those that do.

Age should have nothing to do with hair length. If you have it, be glad you do.

If you feel yourself more comfortable with short hairs , then it is cool!
But if you don't like it then you mustn't do it , cuz it's your head and your style and your hair of course!:)
Some women in 50 have short hair and they are pretty cute, some women in 15 hate it. People are very different!

my mom had short hair at 40. She also used to dye it with henna. I loved it. I'd try to gather it up into a pony tail at the top of her head. Thats how she knew it was time to cut it again. I say go for it.

Shorter hair does look better on some women. Before you change your hair style, look at pictures of different hair styles with your same face features. What looks good on someone else, may not look good on you.
