I need to know how much they normally cost by weight when they are wild and freshly picked not farmed? Thanks

Giant puffballs (Calvatia gigantea / Langermannia gigantea) are rarely for sale - mainly cause they're damn tasty and don't often make it to market. So the price will vary according to availability. They're just coming to the end of the official season now.

Specialist grocer, farmer's market or specialist online retailer (wildfoods.co.uk, mushroomfinder.co.uk) could tell you more.

I think the only place I have ever seen them on sale was in a local farmers market back when I was in primary school. That seemed to be a bumper year for puffballs.

They're not commercially grown (as far as I'm aware) so you're unlikely to find them on sale. And when they're wild, they're rarely found in big enough numbers to sell, so most people that find them just keep tham and use them.

Most people just find them in a field or at the edge of a wood.

I have never seen them for sale anywhere, if I had i would buy them, because they are beautifully tasty fried in butter... sorry, my tastebuds running away with me there. I would imagine a fair price would be slightly more expensive than wild mushrooms, but since they are much rarer, and since only very specialist shops would do them I think you could end up paying quite a lot if you can find them.
