There is only one truth for any one person.
I believe that if we cannot the truth, then we shouldn't say anything.
It doesn't matter what colour a lie is, it's still a lie, and therefore dishonest.
If you are associating with people who want to kill others, then it's time you moved in different circles. Just walk away and say nothing.

If a person with obviously bad intents asks where they can find a person and I told him that I did not know, it would be a lie. A lie is a lie, but some lies are more acceptable than others, especially when something is endangered by the truth.
In more practical, every-day ways, lies are sometimes necessary. For instance, if you take a look at some psychological experiments, deception may be needed to establish an experimental and control group. Maybe they need to test the affect of a painkiller and two groups of participants are made. In order to distinguish between a placebo affect and a successful lessening of pain by the drug, both groups would probably need to be informed that they took the drug, although one group would be given a sugar pill. This way, it can be determined whether it's the actual drug or just the participants mindset that lessens the pain. This simple example can be applied to a wealth of other examples.

As unexpected as it is, Yes, I think this would be a lie. It is not the best way to handle the situation either. Doing so only keeps the killer away from the victim temporarily. Problem is not solved. I guess I would try to stop him, talk him into changing his mind, tell the police, etc. Because he can simply ask someone else or even just run into him by chance!!
In Islam, as in all religions, lying is haram. However, it is allowed only in three situations:
1. In war, to trick the enemy and protect lives
2. In making up between two people who are not talking to each other (like you tell one of them the other partner feels bad they did this and you tell the other partner the same so that they get back to each other and peace prevails)
3. Between a husband and wife if one partner asks the other: 'Do you love me?' If deep down the answer is 'no', they can say 'yes' to keep the family from being torn apart.
Other than this is considered a lie, regardless of the colour!
Peace be upon you all.
By the way, I love your avatar :)

It is called common sense. A white lie could save someone a lot of hurt I dont believe there is a difference a lie is a lie, however you could say commonsense tells you when you need to tell the truth or simply "I don't know." God is not going to call you a sinner if you choose to say nothing.

According to God yes we do. Do we always do it no of course not. Should we absolutely.
We have to pray to the Lord God for strenght to tell the truth at all times. And ask for forgiveness of the sin of lying when we don't.
But look to the Lord God for the answer to that question. I purposely wouldn't help anyone to find someone to kill. Through you lied God knows your heart and he knows if you did lie it was not to hurt but to help.

It is a misconception that the Bible's 10 Commandments includes, Thou shalt not lie. The actual wording is, Thou shalt not bare false witness. Meaning, don't testify false things. Ie, don't say so and so stole something when he actually didn't. Telling a white lie, like telling your sister that you think her child is just perfect, even though that child behaves like a spoiled brat -- is nothing more than good manners.

Lying to protect the innocent may be excusable. Lying to protect ones own self interest or to bear false witness is sinful. Does that make sense?

By any other name a lie is still a liie. Remember you shouldn't lie but you don't have to give an answer if someone wants to kill. Look at Jesus at the trial, He remained silent.

the important thing is not to tell lies about other people. Especially on a regular basis that kind of lying will keep you out of heaven
