It sounds like a rehearsed line? I guess you need to decide if he is worth the effort. Don't forget, he has the power to unlock the direct route to his heart himself. If he really wanted someone in there, wouldn't he open it himself. Why is it your job to do all the work?
It sounds to me like he is setting the "tone" for any future realtionship with him. (i.e. You doing all the work.)

It means that he had closed off his heart, but you snuck in and surprised him. Sounds like his heart is still closed, but he may have a meltdown. Then again, he may just keep you on his windowsill and not let you in at all. In which case, he wants sex without a commitment of a relationship.
