(Check back for my 2 very similiar questions to know what my experiment was about.) What could have caused the vast difference in answers given by Answerers? Could it be due to the fact society is more tolerant to a rude older person than a rude younger person? It seem to be so. What do you think? Thank you for your input!

Jaycubb - look at the questions you asked about Christianity. Isn't that MUCH RUDER? :) You have no respect for the enquiring mind and that's sad.

Thank you luisa_mapacha. You have good points! :) So far I have not been biased in my 'research" and I do not jump to conclusions without observing first. Good "research" results are based on accurate findings, not on what I assume or like or believe or want. Thanks for confirming my "society theory" is right. :)

Rootbeer you are very kind. :) Lizzy-tish I totally agree with you that rudeness shouldn't come from any age group., and it's harder to teach the "old" manners...and the defination of what's OLD is validand true. FAZ has a good point about being stern to mould kids into someting better. But I wonder if we are equally stern to adult students? Ar...too many questions! And too many GOOD ANSWERS! hmmmm.....

Well, first of all, you said the older person was in a NURSING HOME, meaning she is no longer capable of caring for herself. She would have to have some kind of medical problem or perhaps alzheimers, in order to be in the nursing home in the first place. We assume she is not 100% "with it" so to speak, and feel like she should be able to sit in her special chair, especially because she may have a bad back or other phsyical problem.

Conversely, a child in school is presumably able-bodied, of sound mind, and more likely claiming a chair just to annoy someone else.

You've got a long way to go as a researcher!

I think with respect to rudeness we shouldn't tolerate it from any age group . However that being said, I guess it depends on your definition of ' old'. For me old is someone in their 70,80s and 90s and you just treat older people that age more politely because of respect for your elders. Many of them didn't have the opportunity of a good education and so when they say something that we consider off, we think they're being rude.

Young kids on the other hand hopefully have parents who have taught them manners and respect, although that doesn't always seem to be the case. When adults are rude to young people , it's sometimes because that's the only way we have of getting their attention and letting them know they're being obnoxious. We have a chance to right young people and teach them, whereas with older people it's just ingrained.

I think people naturally show tolerance (and maybe even respect) for older people because we will all get older some day. People in the older generations have seen and experienced more than we have. And besides, if you punched an older person in the face you would totally wreck him or her. So, most people realize that a rude old person is full of crap (sometimes literally), and they just let that rudeness slide.

Maybe we try to show respect because they are older so it turned out we tolerate them more than youngsters.

Yes some old folks are really nasty , but because they have not many years left around us , just give them the benefit of doubt & tolerate a little..

Many older people do not respect young persons.... Seniors, think they know it all!
#1 - I have noticed that old folks resent the technology of today... They do not understand it and do not know how to fit into this era.
Rudeness toward young people, is a sign of what I am talking about.

Old people are often totally set in their ways and no matter how hard you try you cant change them so you just tend to accept their state of being.
younger people are learning how to behave and carry themselves now so we try to be stern with them in the hopes of moulding them into something better.
At least thats what i think.
