The bible does not say that he went without water, only food. If he also went without water wouldn't satan have tempted him with a drink rather than some instant bread? Many people have gone 40 days on just water. I have even gone 40 days on just clear juice.
The Lord wants you to trust him. You are having some tough times but have a little faith!

Fasting did not necessarily mean that He did not drink water. And there have been plenty of people who have gone on 40-day fasts drinking only water. The first link below provides a lot of information about Biblically-based fasting.

It's just another in a very long list of myths from the bible. It doesn't matter that people say that Jesus was God in the flesh -- anybody who is flesh and blood would not have survived under those conditions, in that heat.
As for God protecting people, would that be like how God "protected" all the of the people who were praying for help in the World Trade Towers?
