Why not?

as long as you don't abuse it and allow it to control your life

I think that it's a matter of personal choice, as long as their drinking of alcohol is not excessive and does not cause anybody around them with an alcohol problem to "stumble". If you are in close contact with a recovering alcoholic, obviously you don't make life tougher for them by drinking in their company. There is no prohibition in the Bible against drinking, only drunkenness.

Jesus says to work out your oun salvation, an he turned the water into wine.
just don't get to where you cant think strait and do stupid stuff, an you will be OK, no strong drink, and don't start liking wine,
its good for the stomach after a meal. Or good to relax you when you are so uptight you can not hear God calming words. Keep your self holy, one glass of wine, is not going to hurt you, spend the money on good stuff,
pray over it, you know it caries a alcohol spirit.

Christians can do anything. Even if the Bible originally say "no pork", its a matter of time that the the Bible can be "translated" to allow it. Same for alcohol. And some churches now recognise Gay marriages.

I'm just watching from the sideline as the comedy unfolds.

Anyone can drink alcohol if they want to - isn't wine alcohol? It was in the Bible wasn't it? ;) Upto the individual we all have free will. Then again I wouldn't advise anyone to drink because it is harmful to the body if drank to excess, I know the effects it can have - liver damage etc.

Prohibition of alcohol in the Bible

The Bible prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the following verses:

"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
[Proverbs 20:1]

"And be not drunk with wine."
[Ephesians 5:18]

Every alcoholic was initially a social drinker
Many may argue in favour of liquor by calling themselves ‘social drinkers’. They claim that they only have one or two pegs and they have self-control and so never get intoxicated. Investigations reveal that every alcoholic started as a social drinker. Not a single alcoholic or drunkard initially starts drinking with the intention of becoming an alcoholic or a drunkard. No social drinker can say that I have been having alcohol for several years and that I have so much self-control that I have never been intoxicated even a single time
Alcohol has been the scourge of human society since time immemorial. It continues to cost countless human lives, and causes terrible misery to millions throughout the world. Alcohol is the root cause of several problems facing society. The statistics of soaring crime rates, increasing instances of mental illnesses and millions of broken homes throughout the world bear mute testimony to the destructive power of alcohol.

Cases of adultery, rape, incest and AIDS are found more among alcoholics
According to National Crime Victimization Survey Bureau of Justice (U.S. Department of Justice) in the year 1996 alone everyday on an average 2,713 rapes took place. The statistics tell us that the majority of the rapists, were intoxicated while committing the crime. The same is true in cases of molestation.

According to statistics, 8% of Americans commit incest i.e. one in every twelve to thirteen persons in America is involved in incest. Almost all the cases of incest are due to intoxication of one or both the persons involved.

One of the major factors associated with the spread of AIDS, the most dreaded disease, is alcoholism

Try reading your bible, somewhere it says take a little wine for thy stomachs sake.
There is no reason not to drink alcohol, just not to drink to excess.

I do, but not to excess. Some denominations are against it. In the Baptist religion they take communion with grape juice instead of wine. As long as you control the alcohol it's o.k.

Many Christians will say "no". Yet, the bible teaches that Jesus turned water into wine for a wedding celebration.

So, if wine was acceptable by Jesus back then, then why would Christians disapprove of HIS work?
