Hi, I had to re-home a german shepherd once, and it is vital you get this right.
Don't think of it as selling a dog - the money is not important here (Or it shouldn't be!) It is re- homing him.
Write out an honest advert - you are going to be asked why you are selling the dog - if it has bitten or is aggressive you need to be honest as you need to find a person who has time to train it. It actually won't necessarily put people off. Only part with you dog once you know it has enough companionship and the surroundings are suitable - no small kids, a large secure garden, plently of walks, good training, good food -go and see the possible new owners after you have interviewed them on the phone and make it clear you will take the dog back (if you can) if it does not work out. If the dog is aggressive - you should only sell to those who will pay for an insurance policy - and you need to see it first. I am only assuming he might be aggressive - just in case, you don't say why you have to part with him. Satisfy your need to know that he is going to the right place and people, and you will not worry afterwards. Insist you can keep in touch with them (although don't see the dog for a good month or so you give him a chance to settle in) and make sure all is well. It is a big responsiblity, and while you may have very good reasons for needing to re-home him, you took him, so now you have to get this right. If he is passed around too many times, there is a good chance he will become insecure and be put down, so get it right. you can email me if need more help - just ask for my address if you want to

If you bought from a responsible breeder, they will take the dog back. If however, you didn't, you should look on www.dogpages.org.uk for the nearest rescue centres to you. Phone around them and see if any can take him/her. If the first can't take the dog, try the next. Keep trying until a rescue takes her. They will see to it that the dog gets a good home.
If the breeder won't take the dog and all of the local rescues are full, folllow rose merrick's advice.
PLEASE DON'T RE-HOME THE DOG YOURSELF WITHOUT DOING THESE CHECKS!!! You don't know who will be taking on the dog.

Take the dog back to the breeder. Any reputable breeder will want to have the dog back and would be very distressed if you sell it on.

I'ts always best to sell the dog locally, so try adverts in the local Pet Shop. They always have a register of people who want to buy.
The vets is another place where you can advertise.

Well Clare R wants to buy her son a pet, so maybe she is interested. Failing that put an advert in your local paper.

take your poor puppy to your local rehoming/rescue centre and let them find your pup a home, they will put the pups welfare first and do proper checks making sure he/she gets a good home.
