My mum has this problem. She went to see a doctor last week and the doctor mention the problem is due to acid reflux. He asked my mum to sleep with the 2 pillows under her head. It helps.
Try to sleep with your head higher than your feet to prevent the acid from flowing backwards. If your problem improves a bit, then go and see a doctor about the acid reflux.

yes, its medical name is tinitus and it may came and go as abruptly as that. Beethoven had it before he went profoundly deaf. It is thought to be caused by over -growth of the tiny bones in the inner ear -and had Beethoven been alive today the surgery would have been an option. Sometimes drugs can cause it - sometimes there is no known cause -although a GP will send you to a specialist to have it checked out properly. There is medication you can take to help cope with it, although I don't know what the side effects are.

yes

when playing in pub band, I got it after every gig.

It's progressive and incurable. After a long period of exposure to loud sound, the ringing (tinnitus) never goes away. That is not at all pleasant.

I got earplugs.

Look after your hearing.
