All three brands have mostly great stuff, but they also all have a few duds. Read in-depth reviews for the specific models you're interested in. Here are two great sites for reviews:

I recently bought the Olympus FE-190, and I am very pleased with it, so I would go with Olympus.
-it's really small (about the size of a deck of cards)
-it has the same features as other cameras (6 MP, 3x optical zoom) but it is much cheaper
-it comes with a rechargeable battery. While shopping around, I noticed a lot of Canons and Sonys used regular batteries (which cost you more $$ over time).
-I read on Amazon that it is actually built by Casio (the makers of the Exilim). So that's like two brands in one!

Canon's have a high return rate cause of its shutters not opening or closing all the way. Sony's have a horrible optical zoom record unless you get into their digital SLR's or the H2 model. Canon S3I S and the Sony H2 I compared and the Canon is far better for auto focus the Sony lagged badlyI like Olympus cause of the all-weather factor but my favourite by far is Panasonic's cause of Mega O.I.S. and their leica lens is phenomenal. I only have Panasonic for digital cameras and I want the TZ1 model the 10x optical zoom is brilliant! I sell digital cameras for a living and I haven't seen Canon, Sony or Olympus have this feature unless you get into their high end dig cameras. Good luck on you're search!

Canon S2IS is very good because it has 12x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom combined both will be 40x zoom,6.3 mega pixel, with a price tag of little higher that Olympus FE-190. Have a look at the camera and its functionalities you will automatically go to Canon.

I would vote for Canon. I have had Canon camera and lenses for 24 years and they still work great.
Olympus is ok too!
Have you considered a SLR?
