A burqa (also burka or burqua) is an all-enveloping tent-like outer garment worn by some Muslim women in the Middle East. It is worn over the usual daily clothing (often a long dress or a salwar kameez) and removed when the woman returns to the sanctuary of the household

Everyone is welcome to their traditions but the burqa or any cloth that covers your face is a security risk to others in the age of terrorism. If the concerned person wasn't wearing an identifiable burqa, she would look mighty suspicious, something like a female Bonnie and Clyde. And what image would that be ?

I am sorry, but where is this freedom that an individual has when you start to dictate what a person can wear or cannot wear. I suppose shallow people like you do not have any problems if we are talking about scantily clad ladies.

how would forbidding private wardrobes being as people wish, be better than requiring it?

as long as its not causing risk to the nearby people, why should it be regulated?

of course, things like that cannot be allowed in secure locations, like say federal or state goverment buildings, for example, but in general public.... who are we to prohibit such things, any more than we are to require others?

I thought the world was heading towards freedom of choice and all!
Anyone can wear what they like as long as it does not embarrass people around them in anyway.
I really don't get your point...or are you against freedom?

get a life. so should i ask every other religious person in my Budhhist country to stop practising the religious traditions?. u mean to say all women from the rest of the world when they go out of their countries shouldnt wear any cross or make-up or short clothes?. i guess NOT. so where are all your talks of freedom gone when you want to impose rules SPECIFICALLY on them?. most women are comfy wearing their kind of stuff -- try askingthem. and who wouldnt want to cover themselves when perverts are around.

live and let live.

only if you are willing to forbid the cross and any other sign of religion that you can think of...... why should Muslims be excluded from the free will that the west claims to be bringing to muslim countries..... why would this free will not be given to them at home?

Women are not forced to wear anything they do not want to in Islam. Do not confuse Culture with religion. If I chose to cover it is my choice and no one should tell me is can not.

It is offensive and disturbing to people in the West for people to conceal their faces...out of respect for Western customs and feelings the burqa should not be worn outside Middle-East countries.

Maybe we should throw stones or rotten fruit at women in burqa as would probably happen to a Western woman in Arab countries who was wearing a mini skirt...that might get the message across, but we don't resort to this kind of violence as a rule...we discuss and debate issues and try to reach a compromise.

Why would you take their culture away from them? They do no harm wearing a burqa in London or in St. Louis.
