Not all families do. But my mother brought us up to care for each other, never to be jealous of each other, and just to be there for each other. It can work. the older you get the better relationships get. I am one of four girls. We are all married with kids and we get on great, and try and help when we can.
So it's down to the way your brought up and how the family unit works. I am bringing my girls up to be the same, even with the 5 year age gap the love and respect they have for each other shines through.

Not all families do.
Families that have tight bonds do so because they know each other well, they know that they can be truthful with each other and they recognise the importance of the concept of family.

sometimes it's handy if you are in trouble, other times it's just for fun and there are times when you're better without them - it's life
