Nice little market town. On the Leeds and Liverpool canal. I have been there by car, boat and bus. Nice friendly people. It is in Yorkshire to they eat well. You can get balm cakes. Lovely.
Not far from Settle where they have some interesting caves

Use to go as a child great market town and has its own Castle .
worth a look if your intrested in history the lord that owned it in the war of the roses murdered Rutland on Wakefield bridge and he was killed at the Battle of Towton.
Very Historical.

It really is a very lovely place. We live around 30 miles away and visit it often. It's also the gateway to the Lake District.

...none of which has been of any help to you finding your roots, and unfortunately, neither am I BUT, as a tourist attraction, I note that so far nobody has mentioned the castle or the preserved railway. Both good to visit.
