My son often cries at night, like something is scaring him to death. He has his eyes open, stares at something, but isn't really awake.. He answers questions, but cannot tell what is wrong at that time. The episodes (about 5 nights in-a-row, almost every month) last up to 5 minutes and he doesn't remember any of it next morning. HELP !!

Sounds just like me! I had what the doctors called "Night Terrors"...My parents would find me in the corner of my bedroom screaming and crying and appearing to be fully awake, but then I WOULD wake up and not know whatwas going on at all...They lasted from when I was 4 til I was about 9....From my experiance wake him up from his dreams, but don't let him know something is goin on, the ngiht terrors never stayed with me and I never remembered the dreams. Just get him back to sleep. If he wakes up and remembers it, then just hold him and calm him down that was the only thing that helped me. Good Luck!

The best thing to do is to pretend nothing is happening. You don't want to scare him or make him think he is doing anything wrong. Wake him up, comfort him if needed, and put him back to bed. If he is not remembering them, than I would guess that it is not having an affect on this daytime routines or his emotions.

Kids usually outgrow these types of night terrors around 10 years old or sooner.

Just make sure that he has not had a recent traumatic event that he is not dealing with openly.

Good Luck!

Talk to him about his day... ask what was the good part and what was the bad part of his day. My son's night terrors instantly stopped after we had him transfer to a different school. First I tried to change what didn't seem right at his old school, but when we realized that it was a battle we couldn't win, we changed school... his teacher in his new school was so much more child oriented and fun!

I have so many questions? I say change his room get a new bed. sleep in the room with him somtimes(separate beds of course). or a sleeping bag. Be more vigilant about who cares for him, who he spends/spent time with. Spend a day, all day in school with him. Invite God into the situation, pour out your heart to God about the situation, every thing you feel about it everything you want out of the situation. By the way the God that I use, lives and breathes and makes things happen. I identify him by calling him "Almighty God ". If you want to see in your childs mind Almighty God will help you do that. If you just want it to stop ask him to tell you what to do, he will. If you want to know what happen to cause this he will show or tell you.

Honey, this doesn't sound like nightmares...they sound like night terrors. It is very common for children to have night terrors...talk to your doctor and just planly calm him down when he wakes up like this.
