If you have taken zoloft, what benefits have you noticed? Has your depression completely gone away? How long does it take to work? Does your doctor think you have to take this for the rest of your life? Is this a very expensive drug?

I have found Zoloft helpful in dealing with my depression. And this is coming from an anti-medication person. It hasn't "cured" my depression, but it's helped me to cope with my problems w/o despairing or panicking or feeling helpless/ hopeless. As one of the answerers of your question said, some anti-depressants are associated w/ weight gain, but actually I've LOST about 6 lbs while on Zoloft! Don't know if there is a connection, though. Best of luck to you!

Hi! I'm 35 years old and Zoloft was the first anti-depressant that was prescribed to me at age 24. I took it for two years and found it to be a huge help. I did take about a month before I just woke up one day and realized I felt great all the time. As far as expense goes, it can be costly without insurance as there is no generic available like with Prozac, which is just fluoxetine hydrochloride. Zoloft is an SSRI, a selective serotonin re uptake inhibitor, and sometimes these aren't the best choice for certain types of depression. Unfortunately, no one knows how any of these medications will help each individual. I've found that this site http://www.remedyfind.com is a huge help. If you type in "Zoloft" in the search box you'll get lists of people who have joined the site and have personally rated different medications and told what their experiences have been. Good luck! Don't give up.

It starts to work in 3 weeks but you have to wait for more than 3 months to experience the full benefits. It manage the symptoms of a lot of psychiatric illnesses including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD etc...
These kinds of drugs do not cure anything. They supress the symptoms. Almost all people treated with these drugs show relapse after stopping the drug. Generic Fluoxetine is equally effective and costs less than Zoloft. Zoloft is an SSRI.

All SSRIs cause sexual dysfunction in men. These drugs are associated with weight gain also. They decrease the emotional response and change behaviour on a long term use.
All these drugs with all these problems saved a lot of persons from depression, suicide and other serious problems. The benefits outweigh the side effects.
