I suppose I disagree with the majority here. I think a rose is a little unimaginative, but maybe an unusual but beautiful flower would be very nice. (maybe a Stargazer Lily, or a huge Dalia, or even a beautiful Mum) given with a short note that says I wanted to thank you for agreeing to go out with me, I've looked forward to it all day. This would be flattering without making her feel uneasy. Well it would me anyway. I agree, no gifts, nothing in any way to make her feel as though you expect "a little something in return" so at the end of the evening NO PUSHING!!!!!

Best wishes sweets, I hope you have a great time. If you choose not to take a flower don't worry. Just a very sincere smile and a lovely compliment (not overdone or fake) will suffice!

Single Rose

Aww, so sweet. You are cute. For the first date, whatever it is, just make it small. It can be a bit weird to get something that was obviously expensive on a first date. So, maybe a single flower, and I would go for something more unique than a rose (unless you are sure she likes roses) - maybe an iris or an orchid.

First date? A single flower would be fine (Possibly something other than a rose, makes you look like you made an effort and actually thought about what to get)

Don't listen to anyone who says they wouldn't like a rose/ flower on their first date! They've obviously never had someone care about them enough to make an effort :-)

please do not take flowers or a single rose, it looks so stupid and a girl on the first date will feel stupid with flowers or rose. u might give her a small present, but i really don't know what can that be. i for instance don't like cheap presents, but of course nobody is going to get an expensive present for the first date. so i guess just u will be fine. better think what will u do with her on this first date and don't screw things

im sure you are confused with all the answers given..as everyone had given their best, but you dont know which one to choose, yeah? why dont you listen to your instinct. i know you want to impress the girl and show her that she is really special, there for you want to give her something sweet on your date. you know well on what kind of girl you are dating with. so, listen to your instinct. a girl will appreciate anything you give, a single rose, or flowers or a gift. the thought that counts. but as a start flowers will do, gift maybe on the next meeting or something.
have a good time.

if you're picking her up at her house, flowers (especially roses but not red ones-too cliche) are good with a bottle of good wine (this is in case things go so well you might suggest at the end of the evening to open up that bottle you brought ealier.)
A gift on the first date is overkill, you dont even know her likes nad dislikes yet and as for chocolates, most women are always on a diet!

I would just turn up with a big smile and a bigger compliment when she walks in the room. Make sure wherever you are meeting her that you are there before she is.
If you do buy her a gift or flowers or whatever then she is going to have to cart it round with her all evening.
I would save the flowers until you get invited round to hers for dinner one evening,

Taking something is old style romantic & women really like that. A small bouquet would be nice, but i probably wouldn't take a single rose until you've seen her a few times. Women start thinking love when roses start appearing.
