Sorry if there are any errors first off; I got Bell's Palsy today and I got a patch over my eye so my perception on the keyboard is off a bit. Well I got insomnia bad I used to live in NY and with my dad we moved down to NC and its a farmers paradice but I been here for.... better part of 7 years or so but I still can't get past the sleeping prob, I used to work 3 jobs on 3 shifts, speed on a normal basis like most blue collar NYers. I used to highly enjoy the night life on a normal basis but when I did sleep I got maybe 2 hours max between jobs and now that I am here and no 3rd shift I have to sleep at night but I just can't but I never really tried anything other than first simulateing NY at night with motorcord sounds and leaveing a light or 2 on which didn't work and lastly I lay down and turn off everything, all lights and even taped the window shut and lay there for 4+ hours till I pass out. Any ideas?

well I have thought about sleep aids but the idea of becomeing dependant on them has kinda shunned me away and I dunno about the calming music and all the area I grew up in was stressful all around and kinda loud at night as well with all the street lights it was hard to keep the room dark so I was used to being stressed before sleeping in a loud, bright room and coming here to a quite, silent, dark, street light every 2 miles area. its just like moveing from the arctic to hawaii(sp) I have been able to adjust all around minus the sleep prob and I dunno anything about yoga lol :P

Read a book... like the telephone book or something that you consider really boring... maybe an encyclopedia even. That way you are not so tensed about falling asleep, instead you will relax ... which is key to falling asleep. Try Valerian extract also..... when I first used it I was very skeptic, because although it's herbal- I am not a believer of taking something for anything... but when counting sheeps didn't work and reading a book neither.... I bought myself the capsule form of Valerian extract... and it worked. One thing you have to do though is try alternating other ways of relaxing like reading.... and then combine it with Valerian.... and other days don't take it at all, so your system doesn't get used to it. It helps you relax.... that's all.

Go to bed at the same time every night so your body gets use to it. I have a small fan on my dresser so I am not disturbed by any outside noise.... and reading helps me fall asleep but it sometimes takes an hour to get there. Also eating something with carbohydrates will help too, just eat an hour or so before bed.....hope this helps!!

If I read that correctly you used to take speed. Do you still use it? If so, I'm sure that doesn't help! Stay away from caffiene for at least 4 hours before you want to go to sleep. I've also heard ambien works well.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Hit the gym after a day's decent meals and go all out and finish before midnight. Use a routine to break a routine.
