You're not alone--although, in my case, this doesn't happen around the time my friend died. My friend died about 13 years ago in a murder-suicide. Ever since then, every now and then, I'll just all of a sudden think of him for several days or I'll dream about him, too. It's a little odd, I think, because I don't have this issue (at least, not to this extent) with relatives or other friends who passed away.

I think it's fairly normal. My father died more than twenty years ago, August 13, and every single year, just about a week before, I start getting really depressed and glum, then realize, oh man, it's another Daddy Death Anniversary coming up.
I think when somebody important to you passes on, something in you keeps track of the anniversary of that death, just like you remember your loved one's birthdays.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend.

I do the same thing with my brother and my grandfather. I've talked to other people about this too. I start to get depressed around those times and then I realize it's because I'm thinking of them. It's odd, but I know of several people that go through the same thing.

I remember my uncle most of the year but more so during the month of September when he died of a heart attack. It is normal that our sub-conscious remembers those we loved and meant a lot to us. I pray for him more during the month that he passed away.

There may be 2 reasons:
1. He was someone who meant something to you....your loyal buddy
2. You owed him money!
:) Your friend is lucky to have you remember him.
