Can food poisoning cause abcess in the liver within 10 days of infection?

Question

It was not confirmed a food poisoning condition. But symptoms started as severe vomiting and nausea. FEver stated within 24 after vomiting. Next 3-4 days, fever was on & off and usually peaks at night time to 40C. after 7 days, scans showed abcess in the liver. The patient is diabetic and has maintenance medicine to control blood sugar.

Food poisoning and liver abcess...don't think that they can relate to each other at all.
Likely the abcess was present from the time vomiting and nausea started and the food on top of being ill didn't sit well.
Patient may have some other underlying condition than that of diabetes...immune suppression perhaps?
