i was actually just discussing how i fall asleep at night with my friends the other day, and i don't know what type of sleeper you are (stomach, side, or back), but we're side/back sleepers and my friends agree that laying on our stomaches for about 10 minutes makes us just about ready to fall asleep, then we turn over, curl up, and are out for the night.

also, i'd suggest you make sure you block out excess light (i have curtains around my bed so it's like a cozy little fort) and make sure your room is a little warmer or that you add an extra blanket or two on your bed (heat generally makes people sleepy). in addtion, try to burn up some energy about 2 hours before bed and then don't do anything stimulating (or eat/drink caffeine or stimulants)...try reading a book or listening to soft music after you get your kids asleep. i hope something will help you because a parents like you need their rest! good luck and sleep sweet! :)

Hey it looks like people here are ignoring your question.
4 Hours of sleep a night is very unhealthy. You didn't say whether the sleep deprivation is from the children, sleep conditions, work schedule, stress, medical conditions, or insomnia.

You may be suffering from post- partem depression (which is depression caused from having children, which is not there fault, just a result of your biology), Basically cut back on work (if you are employed), reduce stress by cutting back on chores and housework, maybe even take up a hobby or go on a vacation, and make your bedroom (or wherever you sleep) more conducive to good sleep.... Darker curtains, softer bed, less noise,etc.... if this doesn't work then check to see if you have insomnia or post- partem depression.

Go see a doctor...
good luck

Hi, First of all dont get panic and take tabs for the sleep. After finishing ur work in home, relax urself by reading books or seeing Tom and Jerry like that. Be positive.
Take plenty of water as you can. Dont think about sleep in day.
In the evening do some small exercise. If u know "Pranayama" practice its better.
Take warm milk when you are going to sleep and just say ur mind that "I'm sleeping" ( 5 to 10 times )
Pray God.
Try the above i'm sure you will sleep.

Do you snore at night or wake up suddenly choking? You may have sleep apnea. A condition that robs you of falling into deep REM sleep because you are having long periods without taking a breath.

I had the same problem and I was exhausted all the time. I now have a small machine I wear over my nose at night to keep the airway open...

Talk to your physician about this possibility.

Try exercise an hour or so before bedtime. Something to help wear you out even more. Also, check your diet. Try to cut out sugary foods and caffeine three or four hours before bed. This is tough at first, but I used to have trouble falling asleep and once I adopted the "No caffeine and sugar after 6PM" rule, I've never had problems.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Like u mentioned about after ur child-birth, can I suggest that perhaps u are "troubled" by taking care of them and forcing urself to be awake has caltivated into a habit thus making u insomnic?
so if u can arrange to take a short break from ur work and children. maybe that helps?
