I don't understand why people call it tuna fish? Why not just tuna? I'm confused because tuna is a fish and I find it redundant when people say 'tuna fish' when there is no 'tuna mammal' or 'tuna reptile'.

Why tuna fish?

Probably because of the advertisements from chunk tuna producers...they always called it "tuna fish" and the masses started to do so as well. It is just tuna though.

It's funny...when I'm talking about a can of tuna, I'll refer to it as tuna fish and if I am talking about sushi or a tuna "steak", I call it Tuna.

I understand what you mean. I'm in Western Canada and we just call it tuna. When I hear Americans on tv, that's where I hear tunafish.

You are no doubt correct - but I think you are being nitty picky.
If some people wnt to say Tuna Fish - hang loose - live and let live.
I think its OK so long as they don't eat the stuff!!
