I have many years of experience working in one field of engineering. Now I am starting my own company I want my website to cite previous projects I have worked on. Can I legitmately say my company has this experience or do I have to qualify this in some way.

Yes, you can and should use it, but make sure that you give all details, including which company you did the work for at the time. If it is a company with a good reputation this information will only be more impressive.

You can cite something like this: This company is headed by Mr John managing director of the company who is having 25 years of experience with the concerned work and he contributed his services priorly to company zzz which is now flurishing in high colors mainly due to him.

you ARE the new company you are creating so yes you can truthfully say
that your new company has the same amount of experience that you have.
