Hmm I am not sure about your snacks, but over here they have sort of cracker things in a box that are salty, and have enough flavour that you dont really need to put anything onto them. Sorry that I cant think of the name!

Try some pretzel sticks with a small container of peanut butter.. or perhaps some cheese crackers and peanut butter. My hubby loves a good homemade trail mix type snack in the afternoon.. almonds.. peanuts.. pretzels.. japanese peanuts.. some dried apricots.. not sweet at all.. but very crunchy!!

A sandwich? Use some nice wholemeal bread and a healthy filling. It's lucky fried foods don't stay crisp because can you imagine the state you'd be in if you ate those every day?!

Home made granola. Very easy to make and healthy too. So you can add the things you like i:e certain dried fruits and nuts. Even limit sugars by adding brownsugar splenda.

Try schootel (I think it's a Dutch dish). Mix of eggs, flour, margarine, cheese, salt, pepper plus meat and vegetables. You can add macaroni too if you like. Then bake it and serve with chili sauce.
The schootel can be served hot or cold so I think it'd be great for your husband's snack.

If you look around in some grocery stores, sometimes they have a miniature version container of pringles. Perhaps salt and vinegar flavor? Or maybe you could pack pistachios.
