this homemade recipe is wonderful
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup milk
2/3 cup sugar
1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
4 egg yolks, beaten
1.Over medium low heat heat the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla bean until it scalds. Remove from heat.
2.Whisk in a little of the milk/cream mixture into the egg yolks, whisking well.
3.Return all to saucepan and cook over medium low heat, stirring constantly until bubbles appear and custard is thickened. DO NOT BOIL.
4.Remove from heat and pour into a 1 quart container.
Let cool and then remove vanilla bean.
Refrigerate (2-4 hours) to cool completely.
Process in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer's directions.
Freeze in freezer until frozen hard. Let soften at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.

my favorite vanilla ice cream comes from over seas from Romania and from a place called Cafe Gelatto or La Pizza(you find the product at both businesses). it is good, rich, has actual milk in it, has a decadent flavor leaving you to want some more. it is gelatto inspired ice cream so it is made fresh daily, it is made from natural ingredients, and it actually tastes like a good ice cream, not like BLue Bell or whatever ice cream is considered good here in the US. alos, try Godiva, Ben& Jerry's, and Haagen Daas
