Carpet the entire floor with shaggy carpet.
Add some bean-bag cushions, to flop into, apart from absorbing the sound.
Sound-absorbing tiles can also be pasted at 2-foot intervals to the walls in a decorative fashion.

Add a rug and hang drapes. Putting a decorative rug on the wall as art would help a lot, or even regular paintings will help break up the echo, too. Large (or many small) plants can muffle it as well.

curtains would help, try putting big paintings or something on the walls. it might be a hassle to do this, but putting fabric on the wall as wallpaper works great and it looks and feels really cool.

If you do not have carpet on the floor, thats what you need. The sounds are bouncing off the bare floor, carpet will stop the echo.
