Why do you believe in these scientific theories?

1. The earth revolves around the sun
2. Gravity

These are THEORIES. We can't hold them, taste them or smell them. However, we can perform thousands of independant tests and compare the data. Using this data, we can logically deduce that it its highly probable that these "theories" are accurate.

Why do you pick and choose which scientific theories to accept?

I've noticed that many of you do that with the bible too....you pick and choose what YOU THINK is litteral and I've noticed many of you disagree on which parts are litteral...

Is there a method to your madness?

You say gravity has been proven, but I say it is actually invisible goblins who work together to pull everything down.

btw, newton is the one who named it "the law of gravity", it's still a Theory.

PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the Layman (YOU) the word "theory" means a "guess".

To a scientists, the word "theory" means: an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon PROVEN hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers.

Law means: statement of fact meant to explain, in concise terms, an action or set of actions. It is generally accepted to be true and univseral, and can sometimes be expressed in terms of a single mathematical equation. Scientific laws are similar to mathematical postulates. They don’t really need any complex external proofs; they are accepted at face value based upon the fact that they have always been observed to be true.

some of you are retarded....they are theories explained by laws....

Forget trying to reason with them. They'll never understand how gravity can be both a law and a theory depending on its context. Much less can they understand even basic genetics.

It has been proved that the Earth is not Flat . and you will not sail over the edge if you sail out to far. If such was true then there would be no water left as it would have spilled out into nothingness before now.
old theories were made by Perspective from the ground the new ones by being up much higher. and other observations. such as if the world was flt then things would just get smaller with distance instead of the curvature making them disappear from the bottom up.
Because they are repeatable .
No questioners and answerer's interpret what the other is saying and giving any corrections that they think is necessary if the other has misquoted a verse out of context to prove a point. Some are just asking nonsense questions that they made up.

the two areas you choose are established "Laws" of science not just theories. You can test the gravity power of attraction and see it affect an object over and over. We can see the earth moving around the sun by tracking and observing the stars as it moves. We pick the parts that we can observe such as natural selection and reject the parts that have not been observed as in macro evolution which is Darwinism-the goo to you and ape to man theories. Also we accept the Biblical record which actual does not conflict with "OBSERVED" science which is real science.

I would agree with Sean that Darwinism has not really contributed to any major scientific discoveries that have had any significant impact on real observable science except for maybe a waste of taxpayer bucks on so called research that is full of maybes and could have possibilities. Of course a lot of Darwinist think that without their theories the whole scientific world would collapse. That attitude should tell you something right there.

As far as disagreeing on parts of the Bible; Most Christians agree on the core doctrinres of the Bible. Most of those can be found in the early creeds of the church as in the Nicene Creed. As with any subject, some people take someone elses word without checking it out themselves and that leads to different views.

"You say gravity has been proven, but I say it is actually invisible goblins who work together to pull everything down."

Gino,

I don't want to burst your bubble. But this really isn't accurate. I have this video I want you to watch: http://www.godisimaginary.com/video7.htm. After you watch it, ask yourself this question: "Is it possible that I am in a bubble too?"

As for which scientific theories to accept, I can understand your confusion. It would be easy in life if we could just accept everything we are told as true. But even in science, you'll find mistakes, disinformation, and revision. For example, did you know that Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation isn't really universal anymore? Well, it never was, but we didn't know this for a long time. Scientists have found that although Newton's description of gravity is accurate for practical purposes, it is limited to domains where gravitational potential is a small fraction of speed of light squared. So now people often say that Newton's law of gravitation is the low-gravity limit of general relativity.

You just need to keep an open mind and keep studying. And it's tough when you want to study a subject and you find that different people who claim to know the subject say different things. It can make your head hurt.

You need to treat science and religion in the same way. Study on your own, talk to people you respect, and keep an open mind.

I want to you know that I'll be praying for you Gino and that God's love is with you even when you are hurting and confused and not understanding how you stand in this world!

God bless,

Laura

Those are not theories. They are facts. Have you ever heard of the theory of gravity? No. Of course not. The theory of evolution or the Big Bang theories will never be proved because they can't be. The Big Bang theory suggests that everything in the world came from a mass the size of a period on a piece of paper. Where did that come from? Christianity gives an explanation of everything. Science can form educated guesses about many things but they can never prove anything. If we evolved from other creatures then explain how an animal can change its DNA. You can't. It is impossible. Can scientists change a rabbit into a lion? No. Because you would have to change its DNA.

well.....very right..............but .....you go to far in your conclusion deduction, which shows that you your-self are very unscientific. Just as many scientist you quote, I can quote double the number who say, that even something as small as a human eye is so complex with its ability to have a lense, the muscels required to have adjustable focus, and the retina with the right number of color sensitive cells, that it is more than impossible, that natural selection could have led to something which is so precise and so perfect. After all, natural selection is when mutated genes in in an organism results in a change which helps it to be selected. Keep in mind that if mutation was directed by a higer intelligence, it should normally cause a random change. If that is true, the theory itself according to many scientist falls on its head. Evolution is not like the theory of gravity, and for sure is not an observable phenomenon. Current deductions are only based on small fossile records in some creatures. But just look at the human eye man. Marvellous piece of engenierring. And by the way, Bible is all distorted. For accurate science, you have to refer to the QURAN which is the true and final word of GOD. May GOD give you the eyes to see the truth.

Why is the two theories you named still theories, to prove a theory you have to witness it twice.

How many times have we went around to sun now, how many times has something falling to the earth?

What the hell is the science community doing now days?

How come they can't do their jobs?

I've always liked science but it seems to be dead in the water, is there anyone smart in this world anymore?

Has the theory of evolution clogged up the pipes, throw that stupid theory in the garbage and get back to work.

We're becoming monkeys because of it, I don't want to see the human race regress to apes just to prove we're apes. That's stupid.

We need to keep ignorance out of the science community so we can go forward and not backwards.

you're making a competent factor: creationists could freak out if somebody like me made claims approximately their bible, if it replaced into obvious that i could never understood or maybe study it. If I stored disregarding their creation theories with an analogous assaults (a number of that have been debunked a century in the past) without ever attempting to appreciate what they are attempt to describe, truly understand, they had probably get tremendously pissed off...!

You are mistaken, because you take the creation story litterally. The bible states that God created man, It does not say how. God could have used a process of evolution to create if He so desired. The theory of evolution dosen't conflict with creationism unless you believe creationism litterally in a narrow context. God is free to create in any manner He chooses.

Some people are "Sheep" and need "Rote Biblical Babble" to get them through their day. These are the people that perpetuate these nonsensical "belief's".

But, others (such as myself) are WOLFS and don't cotton to the "Man" as a matter of fact we "Eat" the man LOL 8-)
and understand that the weak amongst us must have a "GOD" so that they can go on. I do not need this crutch, since I am a "Whole Person" and can deal with life on my own.

I feel sorry for the "Religious Dogmatic Ones" since they are lost sheep and easily fall into any trap that is set. :-(
