I have a sixteen month old son. Throughout his young life, he sometimes gets what my husband and I call 'acid poop'. Its yellow and watery and has an almost yeast like smell. If he poops his diaper at night, the next morning his bottom is blistered. We've never had a problem with diaper rash with him. This seems more like a burn than a rash. I had a doctor give me a prescription ointment once for yeast infection for him. The ointment didn't seem to work that well. We leave his diaper off for awhile and it clears up. Has anyone else had this problem or know what causes it?

It could be what your baby is eating. Try more whole milk, more rice and bananas. Give him less tomatoe, you know, it cook be intolerencies to milk. Ask your doctor if he is lactose intolerant. Forget the milk buit try thr others listed. If you give him juice water it down 2/3 and only give one cup a day. stick to water and tea, white tea is best. Really check out the milk issue, or other food intolerancies

All of the above are possible causes. But as far as treatment the best thing I found was bag balm, my daughter had the same thing from acid reflux and nothing would help my friend a nurse told me about this stuff. Its available at most drugs stores. Its not a prescription but you will have to ask the pharmacists for it. Check out the site, there are many uses, but I swear by it I still use it with every diaper change just as a preventative. Her bum has had no problems since I got it.

Could be something he is eating and is not settling right with his digestive system., Always make sure you change his diaper even if he pees once change it, let him air out. Before putting a diaper on try some Vaseline to help protect the skin and you can also try corn starch. Figure out what he was eating or has been eating when this accrues and don't give it to him till he is older. Some foods have high citric acid in them and this could cause it, or tomato paste or something that has tomatoes in it. Check juices that he drinks, orange juice is high in citric acid. Just watch what he eats when this happens because that's what it could be.

Juices, strawberries, anything citrus can burn your baby's bottom. Also, some tomatoes have more acidity in them than others. My daughter loves tomatoes and she had major burning from one type that was particularly acidic.
Just make sure to change the diaper regularly and even more often once they get the problem, then keep them gooped up with diaper rash creme.

My daughter had this as well as my son. They both had acid reflux and I think it was the cause of it too. My babies cried when I put the yeast infectoin cream on them. I put cornstarch on their bottoms with every diaper change. That's all I could do to help them.

Sounds like it could be a food intolerance, try keeping a food diary of what he eats for a month or so, that way you can look back and see if there is a pattern to the problem.
