Hebrews don't care about exact numbers...
They say 40 years.
So it'd be around 40 years but probably not exactly. You could give or take a few years becaus eit is not that important whether it was 38 years or 42 years or whatever.
If the Israelites had been Greek then you'd know exactly how many years.... And there would be a formula for it and we'd probably have to study it in school.
So thank you God for making them Hebrew!!! :)

... actually it was so all the people who'd personally experienced slavery (that is, not extremely young during the exodus, or born in the desert) would be pretty much gone by time they got there, so the people who finally made it, would appriciate it, rather than feel entitled to it.
remember the life span was much shorter then.
