well, remember, God is the prophet...He spoke to the men like Abraham, Jacob, Isaiah and so on. God's Word has been fulfilled and the once for all sacrifice has been made, and death has been conquered with the resurrection of Christ. we are now living in the church age, waiting for the return of Jesus. So , we don't have prophets like they did in the Old Testament,... God's word has been written and is complete. we have the prophecies of the world in God's Word..we are just waiting for the rest of them to be fulfilled...ie: Christ's return, the rapture of the church and so on.
now, this doesn't rule out the gift of prophecy....the Lord can use anyone to accomplish his will..this includes endowing him/her with spiritual gifts...and prophecy is one of them.
we, as believers, can also seek God's will through prayer...so the Lord can speak to us, with his "small still voice," ...pressing upon our hearts and minds:)
maranatha!

It depends on who you ask.
Pentecostals and Charismatics would probably say that there are prophets still today.
Other evangelicals would probably tell you that prophecy was done away with the cannonization of Scripture.
I happen to believe that if God wishes to use someone to prophesy something He surely could do so, but the question is, would He? You must ask yourself the following: Is God going to give a new revelation apart from His Word? If so then He very well may use someone as a prophet, if not, if all that is needed is found in His Word, then what would be the point of prophecy?
Some would say that there is personal prophecy, that is apart from God's Word, given to individuals about specific situations.
So it turns into a big debate.
Needless to say the gift of prophecy is for all intents and purposes a non-essential doctrine, and should not cause division amongst Christians.

No. The prophets today totally reject any form of violence. They teach that what you do to others you do to yourself. So no punishment over and above of that is necessary. Evil attracts evil on itself, and good attracts good on itself. It is the law of the Universe, and of God. Throughout the history and throughout every Soul's development the Soul eventually learns that it reaps what it sows, and in the process it becomes a better, wiser, bigger and a more beautiful Soul.

This progress does not always show in the way how people behave. This is because there is a constant influx of new Souls that need to learn, and have come to the Earth without previous experience. There is a big difference between people and their attitudes. An advanced Soul knows that its inner knowledge is its greatest asset.

An ignorant Soul believes in aggression, violence, hate, revenge, and worldly power. This is a sign of spiritual immaturity, as was shown by those who put together the Old Testament.

If my thoughts interest you, click on "Rational Spirituality" on the Dhaxem website. It is an entirely logical concept of God and the Universe, that teaches people how to find fulfilment and happiness, through their own actions and thoughts.

Yes. And today there are true prophets and false prophets just like back then. The problem is that people rather listen to false prophets and ignore the true ones.

I believe there is one prophet for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and everyone has the right to receive revelation about their own lives. I also believe that if you have the spirit of Christ made manifest in you, you will also start to see more and more of the future, but it must be in alignment with the same prophecies that other prophets have had in regards to the divinity of Jesus Christ, and they must also uphold the commandments of God. I think more of the younger people today, who will be here when Jesus Christ comes, will experience what prophecy is like first-hand, as we will all be prepared for bigger things to come.

Jesus Christ the asame yesterday, and to day, and for ever.- HEBREWS 13: 8
If he called Prophets then he calles Prophets today. How else would we hear Gods word.
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, abut he revealeth his secret unto his servants the dprophets.
Amos 3: 7.

All things that once were must be again before the coming of the Lord. That includes prophets. Many say we are in the end times so all these things must be restored. The first prophet in this dispensation was Joseph Smith then Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Lorenzo Snow. I can’t remember the names of them all but the one alive today is Gordon B Hinckley.

Yes, I'm sure there are, but it's hard to tell the Prophets from the kooks. The homeless guy on the corner talking to himself may be a Phophet but no one is listening to him.

Yes,and they are still treated the same. Some are accepted, most are shunned. Even in Christianity. "And it shall come to pass afterward, that i will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:" Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:14-22
