Ancient Jewish tradition holds that the reason Esau was so hungry, was because he had just emerged victorious in a to-the-death struggle with Nimrod, the mighty hunter of biblical reknown.
Nimrod was supposed to have been in possession of the leopard skin clothing that God had personally made for Adam and Eve, after the fall.
It was sort of a royal robe, thought to have special powers, and Esau wanted it.
Esau met up with Nimrod, duked it out, killed Nimrod, and made off with the leopard skin duds.
Distracted, hungry, and worn out from all the fighting, he was easily cheated out of his birthright.
No one knows what ever happened to those leopard skins.
But interestingly enough, the same leopard skins are in some way associated with the rise of the Beast, in the Book of Revelation:
Rev 13:1 (12:18) (And he stood upon the sand of the sea.) And I saw a beast coming up out the sea, having seven heads and ten horns: and upon his horns, ten diadems: and upon his heads, names of blasphemy.
=======================================
Rev 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like to a leopard:
=======================================
and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his own strength and great power.

Actually I was a little put off by the fact that the wife and son of a dying man tricked the old guy into giving his blessing to his second son instead of his heir. I felt that was very mean and tricky.
