I know you aren't supposed to drink soda after gastric bypass, but I do anyway. Do you think it will significantly strectch out the new stomach pouch? I also can eat more than I feel like I should be able to. For instance, I can eat an entire bagel. I'm very full after I eat it, but should I be able to fit it in my stomach? Does anyone else feel like they can eat more than they should? I also have a bad habit of drinking with my food. I am almost 2 years post-op.

After 2 years your stomach has probably stretched out just a little, I beleive that is normal, to a point. This is also a reason why some people ha ve a hard time keeping the weight off post-op, everything heals up and the stomach streches a little and then you don't feel as full as you use to, or like you said noticed you can eat a little more. But if you are too worryed you need to go to the doctor that did your surgery and get checked out just to make sure everything is ok.

I drink soda. I'm post op almost a year. I can never finish a can or a medium drink. I sip like two or three sips and that's it. I started buying the baby sodas...the 4 oz. There's a certain level of discomfort. My stomach gets bloated, then I get gassy. We're not suppose to drink soda/beer because it's carbonated and it does blow the stomach pounch up like a balloon. And if you take a ballon and blow it up a few times, it tends to stretch out. It won't return to its original nice slim size...and neither will our stomaches. Eatting a whole bagel...I think you should eat until you're 3/4 full. If you're stuff like you're doubling over, then you should lay off. Again, your stomach is like a balloon...it can only be stretched so often because it just gets bigger and bigger. Remember! That's how we got big in the first place. Ahhh - and now, I should start taking my own advice and stop drinking the sodas. (I hope this helps.)

I have some friends who drink soda post-op and others that still get sick from it. You aren't supposed to drink soda ever and nothing ever with meals because you digest too quickly and eat more that way.

I have a friend who went through that about 3 years ago and she drinks pop and eats "normal" dinners, though she NEVER has room for a second helping. and she is still looking good. So I would say drink your soda in moderation. Eating a whole bagle should be fine.

Acquire smaller plates. Little crockery means portion control is a lot easier – those diminutive parts suddenly look huge and you’ll be happier to eat less.
