Chinese is a Race while Singapore or China is a country. I am a Chinese from Malaysia while I travelled in China, they said I am a Malay because I come from Malaysia. Some people just don't get the idea of Race and Country. Never mind, just remember u are a Chinese from Singapore, that's it! There's no shame about being a Chinese and where u come from either Sinagpore or China because u r u.

Chinese do not refer to just people from CHINA. They are also refering to and ETHNIC GROUP that has come from China.

They are usually categorized and identified from their:
- black hair
- small eyes
- yellow skin
- brown eyes

Though we are born in Singapore, we are considered Singaporean by NATIONALITY but Chinese my Ethnicity.

Also, contrary to what you might like to think, there are many people in other parts of the world who do not know where Singpaore is becuase we are like this small dot on the world map.

Many Americans/Europeans who are less exposed to the world will be likely to ask you which part of China Singapore is when you tell them you are from Singapore.

With the internet and globalization, the world is getting smaller and lesser people are asking such questions. But that doesn't mean that people like these do not exist.

There is nothing good or bad about being thought of as Chinese from China. We share a glorious history with the Chinese from China as we are all descendants from the Dragon. (Long de chuan ren)

However, due to the difference in culture. Singaporeans, from my personal experience are different from the Chinese people from China.

Chinese from China tend to have more drive, very motivated to earn money, loyal usually to money. They usually make good businessmen.

Singaporeans are more empathic, contented with life, honest and ususally make excellent workers.

But that being said, not all people fall into that category as well...

Basically our ancestors are from China.

You can correct the person by saying " I am a Singaporean"
