i have gerbils, my roommate has a dog, we have a problem.
i know there is going to be some day when i forget to close my door, does anyone know of any products, along the lines of bitter apple, that will keep a dog from even entering a specific room?

EDIT:the gerbils (all 3 cages) are up about 3 ft off the floor in big sturdy glass tanks.
the dog is a husky, he can jump really high and is strong enough to knock over most kinds of gates.

the X Mat or scat mat will do the trick.. It is a rubber mat with pointy rubber tips that the dog won't walk on> http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=9409&Ntt=mat&Ntk=All&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&pc=1&N=2001&Nty=1
You can also get them on eBay

Yes but there will also come a day when the dogs desire will exceed the strength of the doggie no no spray, and the Gerbals, the fiish tank, and your linnins will get ravaged. The dogie no no spray will also play hell with you too. Best advise is to TRAIN your dog to stay out of that room. He will like the training, and you will have a brighter pet. Until then remember ,KEEP THE BEDROOM DOOR CLOSED!

Bitter apple wont keep a dog out of a room. You should just put a lock on your door, keep the key with you always, and lock the door behind you. It's easier to remember to close and lock the door than to just close the door. Besides that, I dont know, put the gerbils up where the dog couldn't possibly get to them.

How about a gate you can keep closed and step over it. Still close the door every time you can. You are a pet owner. Be responsible. Close the door. Even if you trained the dog you could not risk the life of your pet on the training.
Try the spray too. To make him want to avoid the room. door facing area and floor.

well if its a smaller dog or a dog that doesnt jump you can buy those cage things that they sell for when you have a crawling baby that way it cant get into a certain room or climp up-down stairs...or a shock collar (im not really for those) and everytime it enters you give em a little shock aftetr a while itll learn not to go in that room

The dog belongs to your roommate, so it is your roomie's responsibility to keep the dog under control.
You are keeping your gerbils in your room on a shelf up off the floor and closing your door, so you are doing your bit.

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?2Buy
Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.
What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.
