Dear Heron, I have seen your answers and most of them are beautiful and give an insight into your beautiful soul.
I dont think this is a worrying case, rather I would congratulate you for having this feeling of dissatisfication.
It is very natural, when we trod on the path of Truth...and our soul (individual soul-Jiva)...progresses fast towards divinity.... our soul knows we have not done enough...and soul fills our mind with this type of feeling...so that we work harder.
This feeling of dissatisfication brought our soul from lower species to human, and the same feeling will take us to divine.
I too had this feeling when i progressed a little on this path. Meditation, Mantra-Japa and Pranayama together gave me great relief. You may try this too.
The more time spent in Thoughtless state (lower smadhi) will bring wonderful satisfication..and progress

Interesting question, try reversing the order of things, pray first, then work and study, then pray again before you sleep.
.
And nowhere do you mention play. You need some time to just enjoy stuff for yourself, and time with family and friends. And also. some chill out DO NOTHING time..........
Oh and on a lighter note, that feeling of needing to do something before you sleep?, did you turn off the gas, set your alarm, put out the cat....etc etc....LOL

try reading The Ragamuffin Gospel, by Brennan Manning. 14 bucks at your local bookstore, and worth ten times that amount. i think it will be right up your alley. lots of believers wrestle with this same problem - do yourself a favor and read this book. BTW, i rarely recommend books - has to be an exceptional piece of work before i will pass it on to someone else. peace to you.
a second book i recommend is Velvet Elvis, by Rob Bell. don't let the name fool you - it's an atomic bomb in print.

Heron By The Sea,
Going by the background that you are kind enough to diplay, I'd say that you were very religious. And that's the problem. Jesus didn't say, "Be religious and be saved." Rather He said, "For God gave His only begotten Son . . ." and also, "You cannot serve two masters."
If I didn't read you correctly, then I would surley like to hear about it. I think taht you have tried to reconcile all religions, or maybe some of them. According to the Bible, you can't have it both ways, or all ways. They cause you to make a choice, whether accept the faith that is offered to you in the claims they make, or you are not a part of it.
I think that's what you are missing. You are missing dedication and devotion to one God, who only wanted the worship in the way He set before us in the scriptures. You have to decide who you are following. Because they are not reconcilable.

Do you spend time giving yourself some relaxation? Take time out for yourself. Maybe a long hot bubble bath and a good book. It works for me after a long day with a toddler.

I would pray say to pray to the Ultimate or to God or whatever you want to call Him. Ask for the guidance to find the Truth. In your daily life take time to stop and look at things Take time to stop and think about things and most importantly take time to stop and listen.
If you ask to find Truth it will be shown to you, but be careful that you don't miss it when its revealed to you.

Did you ever call your parents and say you love them and good night? Or if you care about them you don't need to pray or you will not confuse your mind and Definitely you will not have any guilty feelings.

Left some one else's burden. If you do that, you'll sleep like a baby.
Even when you just make a phone call to lift some one's spirit.
