She has been diagnosed with depression,and anxiety. She is recovering from an abusive relationship with the father of her 2 year old child whom provides no help with the care of the child. He spent the Christmas Eve in 2004 in jail for domestic violence aganist the mother and this has left her in a very vulnerable, depressed, state-of-mind.

Yes, I believe she is eligible for ssi. She should look into it as soon as possible. These things take time to get rolling especially when you are dealing with a government agency.

Go to the doctor about depression. Have something prescribed for the depression. She needs to stay strong for her kids. Now isn't the time to break down. A job would do her good and keep her mind off of things.

That would be a really tough case. Its very unlikely that she will get SSI.
They have medication/treatments for those mental symptoms. The self medicating with the drugs/alcohol (i'm assuming it was a drug rehab) only makes things worse. Sooner or later you hit rock bottom. judges get cases like this all the time. She would have to really prove that she's mentally incompetent.

If the level of depression makes her in some way disabled it is possible. She should contact health and human services for help also.

There are some social services who have real answers on this situation. I don't have that experience - Sorry.
