I can't say, there is a lot of research to go though and even than you are left wondering.
Let's look at it for a moment. If their was a race that could travel the stars, visiting other planets, etc. Would we really want to meet them, it would be like a lab rat meeting a scientist.
Here is something to chew on, we as humans only see 1% of what is in the universe, makes you wonder about the other 99%. And I don't mean distance, I am talking about the wave length of light that we can see.

I think there's a lot going on in the world that we don't have explanations for and are afraid to admit it. I don't believe in "Greys" or whatever, but there is plenty out there we don't comprehend yet.
