If its a newer printer your computer might actually recognize it, if it doesnt just go online to the companies website and im pretty sure that under their support section they will let you download the drivers and software needed to install it correctly.

Make sure you know the brand and model of your printer. Then, go to http://www.pcdrivers.com/ and download the drivers for your printer (just download them, save them wherever you want on your hard drive, then install them from there). On their homepage, click the Printers button.

Or, you can usually get drivers from the manufacturers website.

Either way, once you get the drivers, save it to a CD if you have a burner. Then, you'll have them in the future.

Hook up your printer. Turn on computer. Click on Start, select Control Panel, select Printers/Fax, select add printer, follow directions and when it asks if you have a disk or want to add it automatically(recommended), select the auto. It should have your printer on file with drivers.

Every time i need to install a driver for a hardware, i Google it, it's the easiest way. although i know there are some good softwares and sites that can bring the drivers right to your PC, i trust Google more.

believe me, i can't remember the shape of my driver CDs.
