Delicately say that you and your roommate have discussed the idea and you both think that having a third roommate would disrupt the good relationship you and your roommate have. In addition, you could explain that your current situation is ideal and you don't want to mess with a good thing.

You could also soften the blow by helping that person find another place. Unless, of course, it's someone you're trying to get rid of altogether. Then, just be as honest as you can about your feelings. Don't attack the other person's character and be sensitive to the fact that what you have to say, no matter how well intended or carefully worded might hurt someone's feelings.

Good luck.

Maybe you could start with "I am terribly sorry but ..." ?

You don't want another roomate? Is that the only reason? Or is there something about this person that you find concerning or embarrassing? Is it because you don't have the space? Maybe you're worried about someone new snooping into your belongings? Is it because you are happy with just two people there?

Before you agree to letting someone move in with you, always figure out the financial aspects of living with other people (who pays for what etc), house rules and privacy rules. Otherwise your place will start to resemble a backpacker's lodge. Remember to use tact with this as it can be hurtful to the other person.

Just be honest and polite. If you have time, ask to see if any of your friends want a roommate.

You need to give it to them straight. Look around your place, is it big enough to give 3 people enough space for their own? Just tell them the truth, you don't want another roommate. Tell them you and your roommate really doesn’t want to have to deal with another personality on a daily basis’s. Good luck and take care.

Well, you can answer her in a gentle and truthful manner. You can answer like "I'm very sorry about this, we wish we could (honestly) but we can't. Our home is too small & cramped, enough for two of us."

It might be that the person is in desperate need to find a home. So, if you have any contacts who is looking for roommates, do recommend her to them. She'll appreciate small gestures like these.

"Hey (name), I'm really sorry but my roomate and I really can't have another roomate. We don't have much more room, and the room we do have, we are eventully going to need for other things that we plan on bringing here or getting. We would have loved it if we had known before we started living here, and would have checked out bigger places, but it's kind of to late."

I think that's a nice way, but you should also just be h onest with the person. People like having their space and if they can't understand that then you shouldn't have to put up with them at all = /

Just tell them that you are happy the way you are with your living situation and are not looking to have somebody else move in at the moment.
Then tell them that when you are looking to take somebody else in that they will be the first person you think of.

Just let them know that at this time you are doing fine and arent currently looking for another roommate, but you will let them know when you do.

Tell them that you really don't have room for another person. You can tell them that it is nothing against them because you like them but their just isn't any room with all the stuff you each have space is limited.
